How to Measure for Valances & Cornices

Instructions

Measuring for window treatments

Inside Mount Valances and Cornices

Use a steel tape to measure the width of the opening at the top of the window. Be exact! The factory will make the valance or cornice 316” narrower so it will not rub against the window casing. Decide which height valance or cornice works best for your space. Most valances and cornices are available in 14″, 16″, 18″, 20″ heights.

Outside Mount Valances and Cornices

Use a steel tape to measure the width of the top of the window where your valance or cornice will go. Be exact! You may want to add a couple inches beyond the window jam for aesthetic purposes. Decide which height valance or cornice works best for your space. Most valances and cornices are available in 14″, 16″, 18″, 20″ heights.
